SHA is monitoring federal funding and policy. At this time there are no immediate changes to our programs. Housing Assistance Payments have been issued for October, and we anticipate issuing payments for November as normal. We will share updates if anything changes. We remain committed to programs that provide stability and opportunity for the families we serve.

SHA is authorized by the City of Spokane, the City of Spokane Valley, and Spokane County
under Washington State’s Housing Authorities Law. Although we administer federal funding, we are not a federal government body. During a federal government shutdown, we will remain in close communication with our clients, partners, the public, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

While there are no immediate changes to SHA’s programs, our residents and participants may be affected by changes to other social safety net programs. Households participating in our voucher programs may request a redetermination of their rent portion if they experience a decrease in the income currently being counted. Additional information is available on our website: Reporting Changes – Spokane Housing Authority.

SHA will share updates or other information impacting our programs as it becomes available.

FSS is a savings incentive program for families living in HUD-assisted housing that enables participants to save a portion of their rent payment when they earn more money at work. Find out about this program on the FSS page.

If you meet eligibility criteria you may be added to additional waiting lists during this open-period through December 31, 2025.

Mainstream Voucher waiting list – for those who are non-elderly (ages 18-61) persons with disabilities, and their families. Aside from this special population, Mainstream Vouchers are administered using the same rules as Housing Choice Vouchers.

Family Unification (FUP) Voucher waiting list – for families for whom the lack of adequate housing is a primary factor in the family’s child or children being at risk of out-of-home care, or a primary reason for a child or children not being able to return home. FUP and FYI vouchers are also available to youth who are between the ages of 18 and 24 who have left foster care or will leave foster care within 180 days and are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless.

If you qualify for one or both options, please log into MyPortal and send us a message about your qualifications through the Contact Us tile.
