Other Considerations for Eligibility

• Social Security Number: You must provide social security number information for household members as required;
• Criminal History: SHA must determine that the current or past behavior of household members does not include activities that are prohibited by HUD or the SHA. This includes:
  • SHA determines that any household member is currently engaging in the illegal use of a drug;
  • SHA determines that it has reasonable cause to believe that a household member’s illegal drug use or a pattern of illegal drug use may threaten the healthy, safety, or right to peaceful enjoyment of the premises by other residents; or
  • Any household member has ever been convicted of drug-related criminal activity for manufacture or production of methamphetamine on the premises of federally assisted housing.
  • Any member of the household is subject to a lifetime registration requirement under a State sex offender registration program.
• Citizenship Status: The applicant must meet the documentation requirements of citizenship or eligible immigration status.
• Previous Debts Owed: SHA will deny assistance to an applicant family if the family owes rent or other amounts to any Public Housing Authority in connection with the HCV, Moderate Rehabilitation, or Public Housing programs, unless the family repays the full amount of the debt prior to being selected from the waiting list.
• Previous Participation: A family is not eligible to participate in SHA’s voucher programs if the family has been evicted or terminated from a federally-assisted housing program in the last three years or has committed fraud, bribery, or any other corrupt or criminal act in connection with any federal housing program.
• Rental Unit/Landlord Eligibility: A rental unit is generally eligible for the HCV Program if it is rent reasonable and it passes an inspection based on U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development’s Housing Quality Standards. Any landlord willing to work within the guidelines of the HCV Program is eligible to participate, as long as they are in good standing with SHA.
• Additional Requirements: The owner or landlord of Project-Based Voucher Units may have suitability screening criteria you must pass.
